50th anniversary day of the Battleship Memorial Park
January 9th, 2015 • 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Admission: FREE with Alabama driver’s license (plus, three others can enter the park free of charge)
Local World War II and movie star, the USS Alabama and the Battleship Memorial Park, was opened to the public in 1965. Kicking off a one year celebration, the park is having a 50 th anniversary day on Jan. 9th. According to al.com:
The park’s opening came just a few months after the battleship made its way into Mobile Bay Sept. 14, 1964, thanks to school children’s donations and statewide support that saved the war ship from the scrapyard.
